Romanian Miltary Steel Helmet. Introduced in Romanian Army use beginning with 1973, it gradually replaced model M38 and model M38/42 used by the Romanian Army in WWII and the Soviet M40 helmets, used after WWII. Its shape is inspired by the M38 model that it replaced (which was a descendant of the Dutch M34 helmet). Model M73 was manufactured from superior quality steel with good ballistic protection properties. The quality of the steel was enhanced by the peculiar shape which offers inclined slopes all aorund the helmet. The interior lining is made out of leather, with added padding made of horse hair or felt inside. The chin strap has four connection points and it is doubled uder the chin. In the back of the head it has a leather flap that can be adjusted to fit the head. In the back it has a slot for fixing on the haversack. The year of manufacture and serial number can be found under the leather lining. Romanian Military Surplus.
